Grants form a major source of funding for universities especially in developing countries where insufficient funding from governments usually constrains research and academic institutions. But it takes skills to write a winning grant proposal.

Marie Gry Torup Idvedsen is only half a year into her new role of managing BSU IV for Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC). On February 24, 2025, she walked into Gulu University’s New Library with symptoms of a cold. Nonetheless, she looked strong and determined to accomplish what had brought her to Uganda. By the time she was bidding farewell four days later, the expressions of gratitude from the BSU team at Gulu were a basketful. There was a renewed sense of purpose and confidence among members of the team:

Gulu University has formally adopted and started implementing a manifesto that aims to increase the number of women in research and leadership.

Gulu University has been requested by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to research Uganda’s refugee model to establish its impact and effectiveness.

Women are underrepresented in research and academia. A manifesto named More Women in Research has been launched in Arusha, Tanzania, to change the situation.

Over 50 teachers from primary and secondary schools across Gulu City yesterday participated in a health talk and training in handling reproductive health issues among adolescents and the youth.

BSU was on Wednesday part of the Denmark-Uganda Partnership Day celebration held in Kampala at the Residence of the Ambassador of Denmark to Uganda. The event also marked the launch of the new Denmark-Uganda Bilateral Development Programme 2024-2028.
